New Screenshots
Quite a few new screenshots is available over at Planet Civilization of you haven’t been looking around lately. It’s very clear that the new look of Colonization will not be a copy of the tradisional Civ 4 interface. The picture you see in this post is from the technology tree.

Will there be tanks?
No, Colonization is not really a new expansion to Civ 4, even though you might think so. It’s a remake of the old Colonization game, and could have been called Colonization 2 instead of Civilization 4: Colonization. The link to Civilization is that the engine of Civ 4 is used. You will not start will a settler like you do in Civ 4, and you will not end up with nukes and submarines.

The special feature is that you do not need Civ 4 to play Colonization, because Colonization will be a completely new playstyle, where you start a colony in the new world far away from your motherland, and fight for freedom and riches. It is very inspired by the old Colonization-game, built on top of the Civilization 4-engine.

The four lands you can start with is English, Spanish, Dutch and French. Diplomacy will be important as you meet the natives, other colonies and negotiate with the homeland. Founding fathers like John Smith and Samuel Adams will help your nation to reach the top.

The new interface will be a completely new interface, but Civ 4 players will probably not get lost. However, you do not need to have knowledge of the Civ 4 interface to master the Colonization interface. The game is expeced in late September 2008.

As you know, there will soon be an expansion pack for Civ 4, called Colonization, from the old game with that name. This will bring a completely new gameplay element to the early period of Civilization 4, and will be very interesting. We will post about this expansion soon, and follow the launch.
